Poem and Prayer: Dedicated To My Daughter In Law
66The poem was started within the week of our first meeting. I instantly loved you as a daughter apart from the fact that my son loved you as his wife-to-be.
These words are the genuine expression of how I feel about welcoming you into our family. They are also my pledge to you that as best as I know how I will continue to love you, to share with you, to make myself available for you, and to promote your welfare as a woman, a wife and a daughter.
My Prayer
Bless this loving wife.
Give her a tenderness that makes her great . . . a deep sense of understanding and a great faith in You.
Give her that inner beauty of soul that never fades - eternal youth that is found in holding fast to the things that never age.
May she so live that he may be pleased always to reverence and adore her. Amen.
(The original form of this prayer was published in Decision Magazine sometime before June 1971 and was attributed to Dr. Lewis Evans.)

Poem: Easy To Love
What wonderful blessings God sends our way
In good gifts that come from above!
And the gift that He gave my son and me
Is a woman easy to love.
First, you prove you’re a special creation;
You wear God’s design on your life.
His beauty glows bright in your countenance;
You’re the portrait of a good wife.
Then, like me, you’re a genuine woman.
You display in your feminine charm
The sweet, gentler side of God’s nature:
Confident, dignified, and warm.
To all these good reasons I still must add
That you’re the belle my son chose.
He looked close at the garden in full bloom
And selected the fairest rose.
Now that you are officially his wife
I share in your hope and your joy
That God will grant you a lifetime of love
In the home you share with my boy.
I’m committed to praying for both of you,
To support in ways that I can;
To be the best mother-in-law there is
And support your stand by your man.
You’ve won my respect for all that you do:
Wedding cakes and gourmet dishes,
Self-care, business management and more
Your fine skills exceed my wishes.
So I thank God when I count my blessings
For the gifts He sends from above;
For His special gift to my son and me-
A woman so easy to love.

I just want to say how beautifully written your poem is and it is truely a scent of rose with the freshness for a young married couple and the way you have graciously accepted your daughter-in-law into your family is a blessing from God. Keep on writing inspirational poems, it is good for the soul. I write poetry all the time, it comes from the heart and is heartfelt to those it can touch.
